Shawn Salvant

Shawn Salvant is Assistant Professor of English and African American Studies at the University of Connecticut. He received his B.A. in English from Duke University and his Ph.D. in English from the University of California, Berkeley in 2003. Professor Salvant teaches courses in nineteenth-century African American literature, African American autobiography, and representations of American slavery. His research interests include relationships between racial science and literature. He is currently working on a study of racial blood rhetoric in American literature.
